New Zealand beef exports to South Asia hits record
New Zealand beef exports to Southeast Asia/China in the calendar year to September grew 21 percent on-year to 51,998 tonnes swt, marking a new record volume for that period.
Exports grew on continued strong demand from Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Hong Kong, as these regions experience income and population growth, according to Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA).
During the period, beef shipments to Indonesia grew 14 percent to 21,418 tonnes, while exports to the Philippines jumped 207 percent to 5,692 tonnes. Shipments to Hong Kong soared 70 percent to 3,558 tonnes, while exports to Singapore surged 68 percent to 3,511 tonnes.
