US approves CLA use in swine feeds
The US Food & Drug Administration has approved the use of conjugated linolenic acid (CLA) as a source of fatty acids in swine diets.
The FDA has amended regulations for food additives permitted in feed and drinking water of animals to provide for the safe use of methyl esters of CLA in response to a food additive petition filed by BASF Corp.
The rule became effective when published in the Oct 29 Federal Register. The final rule contains specific conditions regarding the manufacture and use of CLA in swine diets.
