Ukraine to put up Odessa grain terminal

The city council of Ukraine's Black Sea port of Odessa has decided to construct a new grain export terminal facility with an annual capacity of two million tonnes, they announced on Friday (Oct 28).

The terminal and port silos with a storage capacity of 680,000 tonnes, should be built by 2016, the council said.

Odessa is one of Ukraine's top grain export ports and has a few grain terminals with a total capacity of about 3.5 million tonnes of grain per year.

It also has storage capacities of about 340,000 tonnes.

Ukraine operates about 20 river and sea ports which are able to export about 3.5 million tonnes of grain per month.

In 2011/12, Ukraine plans to export a record 27 million tonnes of grain, up from 12.7 million in 2010/11.
