Brazilian food company Perdigao has reported gross sales of BRL 3.49 billion (US$1.6 billion) in the third quarter, up 80.4 percent from the same quarter last year.
In the third quarter of 2008, total sales volume increased 89.3 percent, reflecting the performance registered in the domestic and export markets as well as the incorporation of new businesses.
Perdigao's EBITDA reached BRL 274.9 million (US$131.2 million), up 20.7 percent on-year.
Meat sales accounted for 97.6 percent of export revenues. Domestic market sales during the quarter reached BRL 2 billion (US$955 million), up 88 percent on-year. Meat business expanded 28.7 percent in volumes, accounting for 51.7 percent of sales to the Brazilian market. Dairy products represented 35.3 percent of sales while the remaining 13 percent was generated from sales of other products.
