US poultry exports to China surpasses exports to Russia
According to a US report, combined US poultry export volume to China and Hong Kong for January through August 2008 surpassed exports to Russia.
Citing statistics in the Global Trade Atlas, Dr. Renan Zhuang, director of economic analysis for USAPEEC, said that total poultry exports to China and Hong Kong reached 630,053 tonnes, 7,118 tonnes ahead of Russia for the first eight months of 2008.
Value of the exports to China, however, lagged behind Russia by nearly US$16 million, at US$594.1 million.
Zhuang said he thinks that it's likely that China will become the largest market for US poultry by volume and value by the end of 2008.
