Ukraine grain harvest soars by 70 percent on-year
                

 

Ukraine harvested 50 million tonnes of grain in bunker weight, over 70 percent more on-year, with the average yield of 3.52 tonnes a hectare, compared with 2.27 tonnes a hectare a year ago, the agriculture ministry reported Thursday (October 30).

 

The grain was harvested on 14.3 million hectares, 93 percent of the total area to be harvested.

 

Corn harvest to date was 6.168 million tonnes on 1.4 million hectares, or 56 percent of the total area to be harvested, with the average yield of 4.38 tonnes a hectare.

 

Last year on the same date, corn harvest was 6.538 million tonnes on 1.649 million hectares with the average yield of 3.97 tonnes a hectare.

 

The Ukraine ministry expects grain harvest this year at 49.7 million tonnes in clean weight compared with 29.3 million tonnes in 2007.
