Researcher at Dr. Eckel awarded top prize

The Bavarian Consortium for Animal Nutrition (BAT) awarded first prize this year to Monika Korzekwa from the development team at Dr. Eckel GmbH, for her research on the "positive effects of a phytogenic product on animal welfare indicators in turkeys".

The award was announced during the 53rd BAT annual conference on October 1, 2015 in Freising, Germany.

The key topic at the BAT conference was "Acceptance of livestock production - challenges related to feed and feeding".

"The jury was impressed by the innovative approach that places animal welfare first and does not just focus on performance", explains Prof. Dr. Windisch, member of the jury. "It is great to see that the industry is breaking new ground: topics such as performance enhancement, feed conversion and return on investment are not the only decisive factors for modern-day animal feed that is accepted by consumers."

"In order to increase acceptance of modern livestock farming among consumers, animal welfare is a determining factor", stresses Monika Korzekwa.
