Chinese meat processor Henan Shuanghui Group has recently started building a live pig breeding base in Ye County, Henan Province, North China.

Covering a total land area of 3,200mu, the project is separated into two phases.

With an investment of RMB 160 million (US$23.4 million), the first phase will include the construction of a 10,000 sow breeding base, three 75,000 live pig fattening bases and a biogas power generation project.

It is expected to start running on February 2009, becoming no.1 in China by breeding capacity and to become a major raw material base for Shuanghui Group.

The project is also expected to drive development of live pig breeding businesses in surrounding areas.

Based in Henan Province's Luohe City, Shuanghui Group targets to produce 1.5 million tonnes of meat products and gaining sales of RMB 50 billion (US$7.3 billion) in 2010.
