Kazakhstan may double grain production and export

Kazakhstan is projected to double grain production and export volumes on the assumption of introduction of new modern technical equipment in the agricultural industry, said agriculture minister Akulbek Kurishbaev during the first international agrarian investment forum "Agroinvest.KZ-2008".

According to the Kurishbaev, the average annual grain production in Kazakhstan is nearly 15.5 million tonnes and grain exports by 6 million tonnes. To date, the country takes place among 7-8 leading world grain exporters, and in 2007 Kazakhstan took the first place among world flour exporters.

At the same time Kazakhstan can increase grain production volumes due to rise of yield only.

Grain production in Kazakhstan is one of the most prospective directions for foreign investments, he said.
