Malaysian vet receives vaccination innovation award from Merial
Dr. Mohd Hair Bin Bejo, a professor with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), was nominated as the winner of the WVPA-Merial Innovation in Vaccination Award at the recently concluded WVPA (World Veterinary Poultry Association) Asia meeting in Crowne Plaza Hotel in Manila, Philippines.
Dr. Bejo obtained his PhD in veterinary pathology from the University of Liverpool England in 1990 and did his post-doctorate training in clinical avian medicine and avian pathology at the University of Georgia in Athens, US. He is currently a professor of veterinary and avian pathology and the dean of the faculty of veterinary medicine at UPM. Throughout his career, he has supervised 54 PhD, 52 Masters and 55 DVM students. He has also authored 176 papers in journals, authored or contributed as an author to several veterinary books, and has been a sought-after speaker having delivered hundreds of presentation either as a keynote speaker or as a subject matter expert. He was also the principal investigator or a team member for 16 research projects, both in the university and within the poultry industry.
Dr. Bejo is actively involved in the development of new generation vaccines such as recombinant, reverse genetic and transgenic plant vaccines. He is also doing research in vaccine production using a bioreactor and exploring the possibility of using nano particles in vaccine delivery and application.
Merial recognises the contribution of Dr. Bejo in this field of vaccination technology and application.
The Award was launched in 2015 and is awarded at each global WVPA Congress to a poultry veterinarian or avian health scientist for an outstanding contribution in the field of innovation in poultry vaccination. The Award is judged by a panel of representatives from WVPA and Merial, and is chaired by the president of the WVPA. The recipient of the Award receives €5,000 to help fund his or her ongoing professional development or training.
