Russia grain exports up 25 percent in September
 
 

Russia exported 3 million tonnes of grains in September, up 25 percent from the previous month and up 1.2 times from the same period last year, according to the State Customs Committee of Russia.

 

Of the total, wheat exports accounted for 88.5 percent or 2.6 million tonnes, up 23 percent on-year.

 

Russia exported 560,000 tonnes to Egypt, 445,500 tonnes to Turkey, 286,000 tonnes to Pakistan, and 206,200 tonnes of wheat to Iran in September.

 

During July-September 2008-09 marketing year, Russia exported 5.8 million tonnes of wheat, up 36 percent on-year.

 

In September, barley shipments totalled 332,200 tonnes, up 1.6 times compared to September 2007. Syria, Saudi Arabia and Iran were the largest buyers, importing 95,000 tonnes, 82,900 tonnes and 72,400 tonnes respectively.

 

In the 2008-09 marketing year (July-September), Russia shipped 713,000 tonnes of barley, up 57 percent on-year.
