Cargill appoints new president for Brazilian market

Cargill Inc. has announced in mid-October the appointment of Paulo Sousa as president of the company's operations in Brazil.

Sousa will take over the position on December 16 from his predecessor Luiz Pretti. The former will keep his position as head of Cargill's South American agricultural commodities division, which he has led since 2016, the company said.

A 15-year veteran in Cargill, Pretti has been the company's president for the Brazilian market for eight years.

Sousa joined Cargill in 1990 and has worked for various businesses. He established Cargill's Brazilian logistics management group and led the grain origination and risk management areas, the company's statement said.

In 2018, Cargill shipped 10.9 million tonnes of soybeans out of Brazil, according to maritime agency Cargonave, making it the country's number two exporter of the oilseed behind rival Bunge and ahead of Archer Daniels Midland Co.
