Fonterra milk production down 8.7% In September

September milk supply from Fonterra, the world's largest exporter of dairy products, dropped 8.7% compared with the same month last year, the co-operatively owned New Zealand company said.

Production for the current milk year so far (June-September) is also down, by 5.3%. Fonterra has forecast that its milk production this season would decrease by over 5%.

Fonterra, which is also New Zealand's largest company, accounts for about 80% of the country's total milk output. The drop in Fonterra milk volumes may result in New Zealand's overall milk production in 2015-16 falling below those of the 2014-15 and 2013-14 seasons, according to AHDB Dairy, a division of the UK's Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board.
