Japanese companies take interest in AWB

A Japanese concern that most likely either Mitsui & Co. Ltd or Sumitomo Corp. could be looking at working with the Australian agribusiness AWB Ltd and could consider an offer at group level, reported Australian Financial Review newspaper, Thursday.

On Wednesday, AWB shareholders approved a new constitution that included a 10 percent shareholding limit that will expire in three years.

Australian Bulk Alliance, an equal joint venture between Sumitomo and ABB Grain Ltd. owns a grain export terminal at Port Melbourne with AWB.
