Pork import volume in Tianjin surges during first 8 months 2008

In the first 8 months of 2008, the pork import volume and value handled by Tianjin port soared by 19.6-fold and 31.7-fold on-year respectively to 54,000 tonnes and US$120 million, with the average import price surging by 62.1 percent on-year to US$2,157/tonne. The main reasons behind the soaring pork imports were the favorable policies and the fact that higher domestic pork prices have rendered Chinese pork less competitive than imported pork.

Prices of pork in Chengdu at its lowest level since beginning of 2008

Chengdu posted the lowest retail price for first-grade deboned pork since the beginning of this year at RMB10/500g, according to the latest monitoring reports dated October 15th.
