Another 14 Irish meat plant permitted to supply beef to China

Another 14 Irish meat plant can now export beef to China following an official approval, Irish Minister of Agriculture Michael Creed announced.

Ireland was granted access to China in 2018 and the latest approvals mean that 21 beef plants are permitted to export to the country.

China is Ireland's fifth biggest export market for agri-food. Meat plants in Ireland have exported 4,651 tonnes worth over €21 million (US$23.4 million) to China in the first eight months of 2019.

"This is the strongest endorsement possible of Irish food safety standards, we were the first country in western Europe to achieve access to the Chinese market and now it is clear that our plants are meeting the high and exacting standards of the Chinese authorities," Creed said.
