US Triumph Foods' to scrap plans of constructing new pork facility
Triumph Foods said it has shelved construction of a new pork plant which was supposed begin in January 2009 in East Moline due to current situation of financial markets.
Chief Administrative Officer of Triumph Foods, Patt Lilly added that they still plan to build the US$150 million facility but the need to wait for things to improve to make that a viable option is inevitable.
The new plant is expected to process some 18,000 hogs per day and employ more than 2,000 people.
Triumph bought the East Moline property in 2007 but however, it is not the first time the company has delayed construction. Meanwhile, expansion efforts at the company's St. Joseph, Mo., facility continue.
