Russian grain exports almost double
Russia exported 6.815 million tonnes of grain, including 6.041 million tonnes of wheat, 768,000 tonnes of barley and 6,000 tonnes of rye between the beginning of the current marketing year July 1 and Oct. 7, the agriculture ministry announced Tuesday (October 14).
The amount of grain exported to date is about double the amount exported in the corresponding period in the previous marketing year.
Between Oct. 1 and Oct. 7 grain export totalled 589,000 tonnes, including 505,000 tonnes of wheat, 82,000 tonnes of barley and 2,000 tonnes of rye.
Grain export in August was 2.371 million tonnes, including 2.183 million tonnes of wheat and 188,000 tonnes of barley. Grain export in September was 2.962 million tonnes, including 2.63 million tonnes of wheat, 332,000 tonnes of barley and 4,000 tonnes of rye.
The Russian agriculture ministry expects this year's grain harvest at over 100 million tonnes and grain export in the 2008-2009 marketing year of 20-25 million tonnes.
Russia harvested 82 million tonnes of grain in 2007 and exported 12.754 million tonnes of grain in the 2007-2008 marketing year (July-June).
