Hong Kong suspends imports of German poultry

The processing of applications for importing poultry and poultry products would be suspended with immediate effect, according to Hong Kong's Centre for Food Safety.

The suspension was imposed due to confirmation of a case involving the highly pathogenic bird flu H5N1 in a German poultry farm, a spokesman for the centre said.

The centre is seeking more information about the case from relevant authorities, the spokesman said.

Since April this year, Hong Kong has imported about 1,400 tonnes of frozen poultry or offal from Germany.
