Brazil chicken output needs to fall 12 percent

The Brazilian association of poultry breeders (UBA) said Brazil needs to slash its chicken production 12 percent in 2009.

UBA said Brazil currently has conditions to produce 1.1 million chickens per month next year, while the looming global recession is likely to decrease demand to 965,000 tonnes per month, local news service Estado reported Monday (October 13).

UBA recommends shutting down lower-producing poultry breeding operations and a more rigorous selection of incubated eggs, said Estado.
