Australia a potential beef supplier for South Korea

This week Australia and South Korea begin talks about a possible free-trade agreement, with a team of senior Australian trade officials meeting their Korean counterparts in Seoul.

Trade Minister Simon Crean said these preparatory talks represent an important step towards ensuring that Australian exporters maximize their opportunities in the Korean market, particularly at a time when Korea's other major trading partners such as the US and the EU are seeking improved access through [FTAs].

Meat and Livestock Australia's trade analyst for South Korea, Tim van Es, said Australia should gain a similar or better agreement for its farmers than that secured by the US with South Korea.
