Philippine '08 feed output may fall 17 percent to 5.39 million tonnes
An industry executive said on Thursday, 2 October 2008, Philippine feed milling output this year is projected to fall by as much as 17 percent to 5.39 million tonnes on poor demand amid high-costing feed materials.
The poor demand for feed is due in part to slack consumer demand for meat products amid surging prices of basic commodities.
The executive, who requested not to be named said, they basically follow the trend in hogs (output).
Hog output in the first six months of the year declined 4.3 percent from a year earlier.
Last year, feed production declined 7 percent to 6.5 million tonnes from output of 7 million tonnes a year earlier.
