UK's wheat output increases this year

UK's wheat production is forecast at 15.4 million tonnes this year, rising 3% on year, the farm ministry said on Thursday (Oct 6).

"This increase is a combination of a slightly increased yield of 7.8 tonnes a hectare, along with a 1% increase in the wheat area," the ministry said.

Rapeseed production jumped 25% to a record 2.8 million tonnes, boosted by a 10% rise in planted area and a 13% increase in yield.

Barley output was up 7% on year at 5.6 million tonnes, mainly due to a 13% increase in spring barley planted area.

The data is based on provisional results and the ministry said it will publish final results on December 22.
