Brazil's 2011 grain harvest to hit new record
The Brazilian Census Bureau, or IBGE, said Thursday (Oct 6) that Brazil's 2011 grain harvest will rise 6.6% with a new record of 159.4 million tonnes, up from 149.7 million tonnes in 2010.
The IBGE in its previous survey had estimated a slightly smaller rise of 6.3% in production, to 159 million tonnes.
Production of rice, corn and soy, which represent 90.5% of the total, is expected to increase 19%, 0.3%, and 9.2% respectively, the bureau said.
