Ukraine predicts 50-million-tonne of grain harvest

Ukraine is predicting grain harvest of 50 million tonnes in Ukraine in 2009, according to Deputy Agriculture Minister Yaroslav Hadzalo.

He added that in trading weight, Ukraine's grain crop in 2009 is estimated at about 48.6 million tonnes.

Hadzalo noted that this forecast is largely based on the current sowing campaign in Ukraine, running in a high pace in all provinces. The situation makes the ministry think that about 70 percent of winter crops will be sown in good time and more so that the number of farms applying advanced sowing technologies rose 30 percent this year, the deputy minister added.
