Over 1 million livestock vaccinated against lumpy skin disease in Afghanistan
The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations has announced that more than one million doses of the lumpy skin disease (LSD) vaccine have been administered to livestock across Afghanistan, Daryo reported.
This large-scale vaccination campaign is ongoing, with plans to provide additional vaccines to livestock owners throughout the country.
FAO representative in Afghanistan, Richard Trenchard, confirmed the successful completion of the first phase of vaccinations. He stated, "We completed the first round of vaccination. Seven million heads of livestock were vaccinated." This initiative is part of efforts to reduce the spread and impact of Lumpy Skin Disease on Afghanistan's agricultural sector.
In the province of Kunduz, some livestock owners have called for an accelerated vaccination process to protect their animals from the disease. Gul Mohammad, a local livestock owner, expressed gratitude for the ongoing vaccination efforts but stressed the importance of timely access. "We are very happy that these vaccines are being administered, and the process is still ongoing. These vaccines should also reach us," he said.
