Brazil September soy exports drops 20.4 percent in September

Brazil's soy exports fell to 1.87 million tonnes in September down 20.4 percent from 2.35 million tones in August, the Foreign Trade Ministry said on Wednesday (1 October 2008).

Brazil is the world's second-largest soy exporter behind the US, and soy counts as one of the biggest revenue drivers for Brazil.

The soy trade brought in US US$908 million to Brazil in September, making it third in line behind petroleum and iron ore for Brazil's top commodity.

Brazil also shipped 1.09 million tonnes of soymeal, up from 953,800 in August and broadly on par with September 2007.

Soyoil exports rose to 200,000 tonnes in September from 162,600 tonnes in August and 146,100 tonnes in September 2007.
