Russia to earmark US$349 million for cattle breeding
Russia will allocate RUB 9 billion (US$349.1 million) from the federal budget to develop beef and dairy cattle breeding, according to agriculture minister Alexei Gordeyev during a meeting.
About RUB 4 billion (US$155.1 million) will be used to develop beef cattle breeding while the remaining RUB 5 million (US$194 million) will be used for dairy cattle breeding.
In the meeting, the ministry's department heads, major Russian beef and dairy producers and processors, as well as scientists discussed draft programmes for the development of cattle breeding and increase milk output in 2009-2012.
