Iowa's pork industry bemoans international trade issues
The Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, has blocked a vote in Congress that would open vast new markets to Iowa products, according to Iowa Congressman Tom Latham.
The Speaker should immediately move Congress on the free trade agreements with Columbia, Korea and Panama, said Latham.
US products, such as Iowa's pork and many other products produced in the state should not be penalised by the government when working with those countries, Latham said.
The addressing of the free trade agreements is vital in a time of economic uncertainty, with recent bailouts amid thousands of layoffs, said Latham.
Iowa's pork and other industries would gain economically with the treaties.
