Argentina August soy crush slightly up at 3 million tonnes
Argentina crushed 3 million tonnes of soy in August, up slightly by 0.65 percent from the amount of soy turned into soy oil and soymeal during the same month last year, according to the Agriculture Secretariat.
Oilseed processing bounced back in July and August after a strike and roadblocks thrown up by farmers in May and June prevented a large amount of the soy from making it to crushing facilities.
In August, processors squeezed 574,387 tonnes of soy oil, down slightly from 578,009 tonnes produced in August 2007.
Soymeal output in August totalled 2.4 million tonnes, up from 2.3 million tonnes a year earlier.
Meanwhile, Argentina crushed 370,998 tonnes of sunseeds in August, up 44.5 percent from 256,753 tonnes a year earlier.
The country produced 150,494 tonnes of sunseed oil in August, up from 103,382 tonnes a year earlier.
