US and Vietnam feed associations sign MoU to strengthen Vietnam's feed and animal production sectors

The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Vietnam Feed Association (VFA) and the Animal Husbandry Association of Vietnam (AHAV) to bolster Vietnam's feed and animal production industries, AquaFeed reported.

This strategic partnership aims to enhance cooperation between the organisations by sharing knowledge and expertise to support Vietnam's sustainable development goals for its feed and animal production industries.

Gina Tumbarello, AFIA's senior director of global strategies, Policy, and Trade, highlighted the significance of this agreement, stating: "After years of working to bring awareness to the Vietnamese animal production and feed industries, veterinarians, and regulators of the variety of products, US feed ingredient manufacturers can offer to maximise feed efficiency and improve animal health and production. This MoU represents our future commitment to fostering growth, innovation, and sustainability in the country."

AFIA's efforts in Vietnam have been supported by funds from the USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service Market Access Programme, which has been crucial in educating Vietnam's feed and animal production sectors on the benefits of US feed ingredients and sustainable growth practices.

This collaboration aims to modernise Vietnam's feed industry, which represents 65-70% of the cost of livestock products. It will promote best practices and reinforce consumer confidence in the safety and quality of Vietnamese feed and animal products.

Nguyen Xuan Duong, chairman of AHAV, emphasised the importance of the partnership, stating: "There has never been a more critical time for the role of industry associations in Vietnam's livestock and feed industry than now. This partnership will enable us to face challenges such as disease outbreaks, market fluctuations, and environmental pressures while also driving sustainable growth."

The signing of the MoU solidifies the partnership between AFIA, VFA, and AHAV, ensuring that Vietnam's feed industry is well-equipped to address modern challenges while contributing to the nation's sustainable agricultural development.

Dr Ninh Thị Len, Vice Chairwoman of VFA, expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating: "We are thrilled to collaborate with the AFIA. This cooperation will bring about significant advancements in our industry and increase recognition from government bodies, feed producers, and livestock farmers. Our goal is to attract more members to join us in driving the growth of Vietnam's livestock industry."
