Minnesota farmers start corn, soy harvest

US's Minnesota farmers have begun harvesting corn and soy; 2% of the corn and 3% of the soy have been harvested.

USDA weekly crop weather report says 2% of corn was harvested. That's the same level as last year but slightly behind the five-year average of 3%.

Soy were 3% harvested, compared with 6% last year and 9% average.

The sugar beet harvest advanced one percentage point to 4% harvested. That compares with 16% last year and 12% average. The sweet corn harvest is virtually complete, at 97%.

Dry conditions continued despite scattered rain early last week. Topsoil moistures hold steady at 13% very short, 35% short, 50% adequate and 2% surplus.
