China OKs 25 new Brazilian meat exporters

China has approved 25 more Brazilian meat processing plants to its list of accredited meat exporters from that country, according to the Brazilian Beef Exporters Association (ABIEC).

ABIEC said that the latest approvals were known through a statement sent by the General Administration of Customs China (GACC) early this month to the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MAPA).

The approvals came after the visit of Agriculture Minister Tereza Cristina and her delegation to China last May with the purpose of expanding the sale of Brazilian agricultural products. They the total number of plants approved to 89 from 64.

Of the new establishments authorized, 17 produce beef, six chicken, one pork and one donkey meat. Those companies can export immediately, as per ABIEC.

The higher number of approved beef producers reflect China's increasing beef consumption, which is reportedly being partly driven by the increasing Chinese living standards and urbanisation. From 5.8 kilogrammes in 2017, China's per capita beef consumption was estimated at 6 kg in 2018, which is still well below the world average per capita consumption of 8.6 kg.

Here's the list of the beef-producing establishments approved by China.
