Pakistan's seafood exports up by 10%

 

 

Pakistan's fish and fish preparation exports rose by 10.10% during the first two months of the present fiscal year (2011-12) in contrast to the same period last year.

 

The Federal Bureau of Statistics data states that during July-August (2011-12) fish and fish preparation exports stood at US$32.402 million as against the exports of US$29.430 million during July-August (2010-11).

 

As much as 13,468 tonnes of seafood were exported during the period under review as against the exports of 12,068 tonnes last year, showing an increase of 11.6% in terms of quantity.

 

In terms of rupees, the seafood exports increased by 11.12% from PKR2,518 million (US$28.7 million) last year to PKR2,798 million (US$31.9 million) this year, the data revealed.

 

The exports of fish and fish preparations during August 2011 surged 20.76% when compared to the same month of last year.

 

Exports in August 2011 were recorded at US$17.998 million as compared to the exports of US$14.904 million during August 2010.

 

As compared to the exports valued at US$14.404 million in July 2011, the exports in August 2011 increased by 24.95%.

 

The FBS data revealed that as much as 7,424 tonnes of fish and fish preparations were exported during August 2011 against the exports of 6,044 tonnes in July 2011 and 5,362 tonnes during August 2010, showing an increase of 22.83% over July 2011 and 38.43% over August last year in terms of quantity.
