Indonesia's shrimp exports to US surge this year

Indonesian shrimp exports to the US jumped 26.7% on year to 40,856 tonnes between January and July this year, according to the association of companies processing fishery products.

This is because Indonesia profited from Thailand's deficiency of shrimp supplies to the US.

Thomas Darmawan said that recent floods in Thailand that damaged shrimp ponds had caused supplies to decline.

Thailand has been the largest supplier of shrimps to the US.

Thomas said the country's exports of shrimps rose during that period not only to the US but also to Japan and EU.
