Taiwan seeks corn, soy from US Virginia
Taiwanese groups plan to purchase soy and corn grown in the US state of Virginia over the next two years.
Governor Bob McDonnell said the Taiwan Vegetable Oil Manufactures Association signed a letter of intent this week to buy up to 110 million bushels of grains in 2012 and 2013, including soy from Virginia.
Another letter of intent was signed by the Taiwan Feed Industry Association, which plans to buy up to 413 million bushels of US corn. The purchases will include corn grown in Virginia.
McDonnell said nearly US$50 million worth of Virginia's agricultural products were exported to Taiwan last year.
