Vietnam's catfish harvest set to exceed last year's levels

Over 900,000 tonnes of tra fish have been harvested so far this year with a total export turnover of nearly US$1 billion, equivalent to that of the whole of last year.

It has been a tough year for Vietnam's tra fish farmers and enterprises with inflation, increased costs and losses incurred due to low selling prices.

However, this has not stopped Vietnam's tra fishes from being in high demand in Asia, US and Europe.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), Vietnam's total tra output this year is expected to be 1.3 million tonnes with an export turnover of US$1.6 billion.

Vietnam has currently 168 enterprises that exports tra fish.

Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Development (MARD) Deputy Minister Luong Le Phuong said that businessmen and farmers should boost co-operation to ensure maximum benefits for both parties.
