Methionine Prices in China Seen to Make Substantial Gains

Of late, methionine prices in China have been rising gradually following the price hikes of other raw materials for feed production. For powder methionine, prices in some areas have reached above RMB25.0/kg. Current transacted prices for powder methionine in Guangdong area averaged between RMB25.0-25.5/kg, with liquid methionine being quoted at around RMB21.0-21.5/kg, while transacted prices stayed at RMB21.0/kg. Transacted prices for powder methionine in Henan area of Zhengzhou province, which have always been low, have also hit the level of RMB24.8-25.0/kg. Transacted prices for powder methionine in Shandong area averaged between RMB25.0-25.5/kg, while Sichuan area's kept close to RMB25.0/kg.
In short, market supply is not abundant enough to meet the increasing demand for methionine in China. Also, the limited volume arriving at Chinese ports has led to distributors' prudent attitudes in letting off their inventories. Accordingly, an upward price trend is seen in China's methionine market for the nearby to middle term.
