India grains output projected at 144.52 million tonnes for 2020 / 2021 season
India's government said its farmers are projected to harvest 144.52 million tonnes of grains in the crop year to June 2021, a record high compared to 143.38 million tonnes harvested in the same period last year, Reuters reported.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, corn output is expected to reach 19.88 million tonnes compared to 19.63 million tonnes in the previous season, while soybean output is set to reach 13.58 million tonnes, higher than the 11.21 million tonnes last season.
The majority of grains harvested are rice at 102.36 million tonnes. India is the biggest exporter of rice in the world.
The record harvest output is thanks to this year's plentiful monsoon rains, which has helped Indian farmers plant a record acreage of corn, soybeans, rice, cotton and sugarcane.
