Japan to increase checks on Vietnamese seafood
Japan's Bureau of Food and Drugs has ordered increased checks of seafood imports from Vietnam for Shigella Sonnei bacterium.
All products of Dong Dong Hai Company and 30 percent of products from other companies will be checked for the bacterium when they are exported to Japan, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP).
Once infected by the bacteria, people will develop diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps.
