SalMar subsidiary in agreement to use waste heat in aquaculture

 

 

 

Nippon Gases and the SalMar subsidiary SalMar Settefisk have entered into an agreement to use waste heat in aquaculture.

 

They said this sustainable collaboration underlines both companies' commitment to green initiatives and the circular economy. The deal involves two facilities located side by side on the Tjuin industrial area, near Steinkjer in central Norway.

 

Nippon Gases and SalMar already have a long-term agreement for the direct supply of oxygen to the latter's new smolt plant.

 

The collaboration between the companies is now taking a new direction, as Nippon Gases undertakes to deliver waste heat from its production process to heat the smolt plant.

 

Lars Borgli, managing director of Nippon Gases Norway, said: "This sustainable agreement with SalMar marks another step forward on the road to the green shift within Norwegian industry.

 

"It clearly demonstrates the potential that arises when several actors are co-located. By implementing circular solutions, we achieve benefits that benefit all parties involved."

 

SalMar sustainability manager Mats Wærøe Langseth said: "This partnership between Nippon Gases and SalMar highlights the importance of good collaboration across industrial areas to realise environmental and economic benefits.

 

"It represents a constructive step towards a more sustainable and efficient utilisation of resources, while, at the same time, it confirms both companies' commitment to a greener future."

 

Nippon Gases is one of Norway's leading producers, marketers and distributors of industrial and special gases as well as dry ice. It has a UK base at Immingham, near Grimsby.

 

SalMar Settefisk AS produces smolt in several plants from Trøndelag to Troms. In addition, SalMar produces cleaner fish and has its own salmon egg production facility.
