Ukraine to be top-five corn producers this year

Alexander Demidov, Director of the department of farming agriculture of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine declared Ukraine's coming to the top-five biggest world corn producer.

To date, agrarians harvested corn throughout 7% of the planned areas with the average yield of 50.4 c/ha. In the terms of maintaining the yield indices the country will produce over 18 million tonnes of corn, which will become the record harvest volume, said Demidov.

He noted that in the current year agrarians increased corn sowing areas by 800,000ha, thus the production volumes will grow by 3.6 million tonnes.

According to him, the world market will produce 792 million tonnes of corn in 2011, and Ukraine will come to the top-five largest corn producers.
