Hungary's wheat crop exceeds past five year's production

In spite of unpredictable weather conditions, Hungary's present year wheat crop surpassed the previous five years' production, including that of last year, according to the Central Statistics Office or KSH Tuesday (Sep 20).

Wheat, the most significant grain in Hungary, yielded a total crop of 4.1 million tonnes, up 10% from 2010, but below the average of the past five years by 7%.

The sowing area for wheat was 3% smaller this year than last year.

The total grain crop, excluding corn, was 5.7 million tonnes this year, up 8% from 5.3 million in 2010 and above the average of the past five years. The sowing area for grains was 5% less this year than last year.
