Finland's milk fat consumption up in all product groups

Consumption of milk fat in all product groups such as milk, yoghurts, and cheese has increased in Finland, a Finnish dairy company Valio said.

The change in consumption habits towards more natural products was the cause of the increase in demand. The discussion on the healthy or harmful effects of fats has made milk fat acceptable in consumers' eyes.

The price of butter has gone up by 22% in Finland in 12 months. In August 2010, the price of butter was US$2.50 per kilo, on average, compared to US$3.08 in August 2011. According to Valio, the final consumer prices are determined by availability as well as butter campaigns. Together with coffee and sugar, butter continues to be a popular campaign product.
