Australian live cattle exports hold steady
    
 

Australian exported 71,211 head of live cattle in July, as robust Indonesian demand drives shipping volumes.

 

While July exports were lower 4 percent on-year, shipments were the second highest for 2008, taking total export volume for the first seven months of the year to 461,415 head, up 11 percent on-year.

 

Exports to Indonesia in July increased 2 percent on-year to 56,603 head, while shipments for the first seven months grew 10 percent to a record 339,987 head.

 

Libya was the second largest importer in July with 6,047 head. China and Japan imported 2,596 head and 1,500 head respectively.

 

Shipments to Malaysia in July remained low at 1,435 head.
