Argentina 2008-09 corn forecast lowered to 3.5 million hectares

Argentina's forecast for 2008-09 corn planting was lowered to 3.5 million hectares from the 3.6 million-3.8 million hectares estimated last month, the Agriculture Secretariat said in its monthly crop report Wednesday (September 17).

The forecast for sunflower seed area was also sharply lowered to 2.5 million hectares, compared with the 3 million-3.1 million hectares seen last month, as dry weather prevented planting in many areas, the secretariat said.
