New Zealand exported 10,464 tonnes swt of beef to the US in August, up 42 percent on-year and accounting for 47 percent of total beef exports for the month. The growth was due to the sharp depreciation of the New Zealand dollar, which boosted exporter returns to the US.

Beef shipments to Japan jumped 38 percent on-year to 2,917 tonnes swt, while exports to Taiwan soared 17 percent to 1,286 tonnes swt.

Demand for New Zealand declined in both South Korea and Canada in August, with shipments falling 2 percent and 15 percent, respectively, to 1,554 tonnes swt and 1,014 tonnes swt.

In the first eight months of the year, New Zealand exported 279,228 tonnes swt of beef, up 2 percent on-year.
