China will issue low-tariff import quotas of wheat, rice, corn and cotton for 2012, with volumes unchanged from 2011, the National Development and Reform Commission said Thursday (Sep 15).
Import quotas for wheat will be 9.636 million tonnes, of which 90% will be issued to state-owned companies. Corn import quotas will be 7.2 million tonnes, of which 60% will be allocated to state-owned companies.
The government will also issue 5.32 million tonnes of rice import quotas and 894,000 tonnes of cotton quotas, according to the commission.
Importers have to apply for the volume from the commission before November 30, 2011 and the commission will issue the quotas to qualified companies on January 1, 2012, according to the statement.
