Russia hit by another outbreak of African Swine Fever

Russia has recently been hit by another outbreak of African Swine Fiver in the Krasnodar region.

According to the district administration of Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, the specialist of Veterinary Laboratory has confirmed the death of the animals due to the virus. The outbreak has been located at the private farms in a village in Leninsky district of the Krasnodar region of Abinsk near the border with the Crimean region. About 147 pigs were discovered on the farms. According to reports 34 of them contracted the disease and four died.

It was decided that all livestock on the farms would be culled in order to prevent the spread of the virus.

Specialists of the State Veterinary Service for the Krasnodar Region and the Republic of Adygea carried out a set of measures aimed to localise the infection and to prevent further spread of the disease.

Just a week earlier, the Russian government officially declared failure in the fight against African swine fever. In an interview with RBK Daily, the representative of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture admitted that the various ministries cannot agree. "There is no single strategy, no coherence, no any collaboration and each department takes considerable amount money and spend it on particular measures, often without achieving a satisfactory outcome," said a source.
