US beef exports on the rise

US beef exports have moved past the mad cow disease controversy and are on the rise, according to the USDA.

The agency said the US exported over 437,000 tonnes of beef this year as of September, up 42 percent on-year.

Wholesale prices for US beef have also increased nearly 9 percent on-year, with August prices at the highest since the mad cow disease outbreak in 2003.

US data showed that South Korea had imported 430,000 tonnes of US beef this year, a level that is close to the pre-BSE period.
